Design & Color Awards - 2018
This Office building was designed for a plant propagation and growing media exporter to expand its factory. On a largely sloping terrain, the plan was to retain the available flat land for future expansion. Except for foundation and retaining walls, the entire structure could be up-cycled once the facility passes its lifespan. Further, the building orientation along East-West axis ensures optimum daylight. Owing to the aforesaid and many other innovative features, it is fair to categorize this as a ‘Blue Efficient’ building.

Believing in a mode of practice that cleverly fuses the Client’s pragmatic requirements with the Architect’s inner belief, Russell searches for an architecture that is minimal in resource use, sustainable in environmental response, and conscientious in dealing with the local climate, people and place. Among the awards he has won for his work are ‘The Best Personalized House of the Year ’- 2008 and ‘The Young Architect of the Year’ - 2009, both of which were awarded by the Sri Lanka Institute of the Architects (SLIA) & Merit award for Excellence in Architecture 2018 for the best office building design for JIFFY Products SL Building at Mirigama and 2 awards for Best CSR project by JASTECA - Japan Sri Lanka Technical & Cultural Association & Best CSR Sustainability Award by JASTECA in 2018.
