This project is an addition of a series of seven villas to a historic estate, a fully functioning rubber plantation located in Neboda , Kalutura Sri Lanka. Currently phase 1 with 4 villas has been completed. The estate is scenic, with multiple hiking trails, runnels and waterfalls. The client who bought this property (nearly 40 years ago) while recently clearing areas of rubber to introduce an inter crop of cinnamon discovered magnificent valley views and wanted incorporate a series of new villas to maximize the views and to change the overall program of the plantation , by creating wellness oriented vacations at Glenross. The client requested the adaptive reuse of old service quarters of the estate as a Spa and to introduce new villas as well as a yoga pavilion. The new villas were designed such that there is minimal destruction to natural terrain. The building works with the existing topography thereby minimizing cut and fill and thereby aspires to seamlessly integrate into existing boulder, cinnamon, rubber estate landscape .The villas were designed be light & slender and to float above the ground on stilts , rather than on a heavy solid foundation. The villas have been designed as two floor structures as the result of the existing topography. The upper/entry level comprises of a bedroom wing and bath& balcony while lower level comprises of an indoor/outdoor lounge area along with a pool and pool deck. Decks that enable mediation, relaxation with dramatic valley views.
