Design University buildings in Sri Lanka have not been very attentive and there are only very few that carry architectural merits.. Concept. To create a built environment that’s soothing to the medical student, staff with minimum impact to the rural environment. Approach In this project, a new medical faculty a totally separate location from its affiliated University. This created an opportunity to design a set of buildings with a new theme and a fresh approach. Medical education at the university level is very stressful and has a much longer learning period. Students go through a harsh period of time to achieve their degrees. So how can Architecture help to make their life and mind? Scattered buildings over the two acres of land fewer roads more walking paths with the remaining coconut trees were the thoughts that led to this set of buildings. Otherwise, there could have been a few storied buildings clustered together and the students may jump from one to another like in a cityscape. Location of buildings are carefully selected and higher buildings are concentrated at the mid part of the land this includes the laboratories and lecture hall, the auditorium. On the site, there are two areas that get divided by a village road. The common facilities like the gymnasium, playground, and pavilion are located off this road. This is a Design and Build Project under the Ministry of Higher Education. We were the consortium consultants for the contractor accepted by the Employer Ministry of Higher Education
