Design Awards - 2024
Nestled within the enchanting neighborhood of Koramangala in Bangalore, India, this project stands as a testament to the seamless integration of contemporary design, traditional influences, and the unique streetscape of its surroundings. The residential enclave, strategically combining two plots spanning approximately 40 x 120ft, caters to the dynamic lifestyle of a young couple and their two daughters. Challenges abounded in crafting a residence that not only offered privacy but also opened up to the lush tree canopies beyond the site, fostering visual connectivity. In addition, a delicate balance was sought between the vernacular architecture of Bangalore and the demands of a modern lifestyle. Guided by the principles of vastu, the entrance faces the east, while the rear façade assumes significance as a main façade. The architectural narrative unfolds through the creation of two pavilion blocks facing each other, creating a central courtyard, a familial gathering space and the soul of the design. This central hub intricately connects and anchors various living spaces, culminating in an oasis within the bustling neighbourhood. The living area, conceived as a veranda, extends into the central courtyard, enveloping the home in an open embrace. Slatted doors provide both security and a seamless blend between indoors and outdoors. The lower level accommodates the parents' bedroom, while the upper level, strategically designed for the family and two children, connects to a family lounge overlooking the living veranda and visually linked to the double-height dining area.
