Design Awards - 2023
The property is a two storied house built in the 70’s, with a large garden overlooking Diyawanna Oya, initially used for a commercial purpose to showcase owner’s clothing line and part of the building was rented to a famous franchise coffee shop and a fast food outlet. The transformation occurred when the property was leased to Chapter One Restaurant and Café One, a client who had a vision of creativity a new meaning to the restaurant culture. Chapter One is more than a simple restaurant facing a beautiful landscape overlooking the Diyawannawa Oya in the midst of the fanatic urban setup. It acts as an oasis calms one’s mind, helps to create a pause to a busy routine. The project included a new wing that runs parallel to the boundary of the property and changes were made to the existing structure to expand certain spaces as required for the new function. The new building included space for owners clothing line, coffee and pastry shop at ground floor, a large fine dining restaurant with a show kitchen at the ground floor. The upper floor was designed as a continuation of the fine dining restaurant and couple of larger private rooms which can be reserved for private parties and a well-designed bar that bridges dining area and the coffee/pastry shop at the upper level. Currently the building is leased to a different commercial entity with certain changes to the building as required for the new function.
