Renovation of Indra Hardware

Color Awards - 2021

Piliyandala

Merit Award

The refurbishment was done on a hardware store in middle of a hectic prominent urban context. where the existed commercial space was nowhere near tidy and noticeable the challenge was real to create a better and comfortable marketing environment to connect the trader and the customer in order to attract more customers by giving them a different experience. The design approach was taken to keep the rustic outline while creating a customer friendly and a very practical environment. therefore, the exterior and interior connectivity was considered first as the fundamental key aspect. The front façade was recreated by opening up 70% of the façade using a glass curtain and refabricating the existing façade introducing a rustic scaffolding pallets as a cladding material. The glass and steel combination gives a modern rustic appearance as well as increasing the visibility to the customer. The building envelope consists of a paint concept center and a hardware space.
