Color Awards - 2023
The residence is two-story house in Colombo. The challenge was to create a comfortable home in a densely packed urban neighborhood, especially on relatively small, triangular land. The main functions are formed in a linear arrangement to encourage natural light and ventilation, allowing nature to flow into the spaces while private and service zones are on either side of the central spine. The comfort and the peaceful ambiance has attained by a series of textures followed by a tropical color palette. The house is entered through a blue-washed rustic antique door under a cool shade of a Ebony tree that create a soothing space with creating shadows. As entered into the house the core functions like living, dining, and tv lobby has being well framed in a linear form while creating visual and physical links with the rear garden. With linear functions triangular red gravel courtyard with a featured wall of blue-washed traditional window panels brings light into the space creating a heavenly atmosphere. A cement wall with blue colored paintings provides a backdrop for the Living space. Bedrooms, toilets, and office space allow maximum light and ventilation which creates a comfortable living environment. Upper floor contains the office space, bedrooms while maintaining the privacy and encouraging to attain the bond of the family. The main feature of the studio is a wall finished with reused panel with earthy colors. The architect aimed to create modern architecture, complementing the traditional Sri Lankan elements while blending nature with the architecture.
