Innovative use of colour in transforming a Dwelling to a Night Club - 2 Zero 6 Music Factory

Color Awards - 2021

Havelock Road, Colombo 05 (Thimbirigasyaya)

Shortlisted Nominee

A two-storied dwelling of volumes confined to few rooms, was renovated to transform to an amply spaced night club with a whimsical interior and street presence. Originally a nondescript 80's residence, later functioned as a karaoke bar, the critical design challenge was to convert its architectural and spatial typology within a restricted budget to suit the new recreational function. The renovation included thoughtfully stripping out few interior walls and raising some exterior walls to open up a double-height volume, which was then elevated with a thoughtfully selected rustics yet playful colour theme and materials to become a fanciful ‘music factory’. In doing so, a custom copper toned colour was especially formulated for the interior walls, which is now being marketed as the ‘2 ZERO 6’ copper paint by the specific paint supplier.
